Create a webhook so an authorised external system can send events that start your automation.
Before you start
Use a role that can manage automation connections. Agree the incoming event fields and environment with the person configuring the sending system.
Create the webhook
- Open Automations → More → Connections and choose Webhooks.
- Select Create webhook, enter Webhook name, choose Environment and define Payload schema for the expected event fields.
- Review the setup and choose Create reviewed webhook.
- In Save your signing secret, choose Copy signing secret and Copy endpoint URL. Store the secret securely and give the authorised sender the required configuration.
- Follow Payload schema and signing instructions when setting up the sender. The signing secret is displayed once; choose Close and clear secret after saving it securely.
- Configure the corresponding webhook trigger in the automation, review the incoming fields and publish it.
- Inspect Received event receipts and choose Refresh receipts to review incoming events.
Expected outcome
Accepted events can start the configured workflow. An external event does not itself confirm payment, grant approval or establish that physical work was completed.
Rotate or stop access
Choose Rotate signing secret and Confirm rotation, then update the sender with the new secret. The previous secret stops authorising new events. To stop the webhook, choose Revoke webhook and Confirm webhook revocation. Use Refresh webhooks to inspect the current state and check event receipts before retrying a sender.
